The best AI visibility tools in 2026 fall into three groups. Bing Webmaster Tools is the only free first-party citation counter, reporting real citation counts from Copilot and Bing's AI answers. Prompt-testing monitors (Peec AI, Otterly.AI, ZipTie.dev, Scrunch AI, Goodie) run scheduled question panels across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI surfaces. Share-of-voice platforms (Profound, Ahrefs Brand Radar, Semrush) benchmark brand mentions against competitors at scale. Free checkers from Ahrefs, HubSpot, and Knowatoa give a one-time snapshot. Start with Bing Webmaster Tools, add one monitor that covers your engines, and segment AI referral traffic in your analytics.

How do you actually measure AI visibility?
Only three ways to measure AI visibility exist, and every product on this list is a packaging of one or more of them. Anyone promising a precise "AI rank" is overselling: a model generates one answer per prompt, names a few brands inside it, and cites a few sources under it. You are either in the answer or absent from it.
First-party citation counters are reports published by the engine itself. Exactly one exists. Microsoft launched AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools in public preview in February 2026, showing how often your pages are cited across Copilot, Bing's AI answers, and partner integrations, which URLs get cited, and the grounding queries that retrieved them. A June 2026 update added intents, topics, citation share, and period comparison. Google added a generative AI performance report to Search Console in June 2026, but it reports impressions only: no citation counts, no clicks, no query data. OpenAI publishes nothing for site owners. So Bing remains the only place where a citation count comes from the engine rather than from sampling.
Prompt testing means running a fixed panel of buying questions through each engine on a schedule and logging which brands and sources appear. You can do this by hand in a spreadsheet, and for a small brand you probably should for a month before paying for anything. It is noisy, answers vary run to run, so the discipline is a stable panel, logged results, and trends read across months. Most paid AI visibility tools are automations of exactly this process.
Analytics channels are where the business case shows up. Segment your web analytics for referral traffic from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, copilot.microsoft.com, and gemini.google.com, and watch conversion rates on those segments separately. AI referrals tend to be low-volume and high-intent, and no dashboard replaces knowing whether citations turn into pipeline. When a high-intent segment lands but does not convert, that is a conversion problem, not a visibility problem; our guide to diagnosing drop-off with session recordings covers that side.
A fourth signal, share of voice, is prompt testing at scale: how often you appear versus named competitors across a large prompt set. One caveat applies to every vendor below: each tool samples its own prompt set, so absolute numbers differ between platforms. Compare trends within one tool, never scores across two.

How did we pick and categorize these tools?
Full disclosure: Karpi Studio is an agency, and this is a buyer's guide written by a buyer. We run AI visibility measurement for B2B SaaS clients as part of our answer engine optimization service, so we use tools from this list daily on our own site and on client sites; Bing Webmaster Tools and Ahrefs Brand Radar sit in our standing stack. Karpi Studio is deliberately absent from the picks. We sell measurement plus execution as a service; these vendors sell software, and mixing the two categories in one list would blur exactly the distinction this article exists to make.
Four criteria decided inclusion. First, the tool had to be verifiable on its own site with its own published positioning; anything we could not confirm was cut. Second, honest categorization: a first-party counter, a prompt-testing monitor, and a share-of-voice platform answer different questions, and several tools got refiled from their marketing category into the one that matches what the product does. Third, engine coverage stated precisely. Fourth, pricing model type only, free or paid, because list prices in this category change quarterly and negotiated enterprise deals make published numbers misleading anyway.
What does each AI visibility tool do best?
Eleven tools, three jobs: ground truth, scheduled monitoring, and competitive share of voice. In the order most teams should evaluate them:
1. Bing Webmaster Tools (AI Performance reports)
Category: first-party citation counter. The only one on the market.
Best for: every site owner, from day one, at no cost.
Every other tool on this list estimates. Bing Webmaster Tools counts. Since the February 2026 public preview, its AI Performance reports show the actual number of times your pages were cited across Microsoft Copilot, Bing's AI answers, and partner integrations, which URLs earned the citations, and the grounding queries the engine generated to retrieve them. The June 2026 update added intent and topic breakdowns, citation share against your competitive set, and period comparison. Grounding queries deserve a special mention: they reveal how the engine rewrites user prompts into searches, optimization intelligence no sampled tool can provide.
Fit boundary: it covers the Microsoft ecosystem only, and it counts citations without click or traffic data. ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity visibility need one of the tools below, and Google's own Search Console gen-AI report covers impressions on Google's AI surfaces, nothing deeper. Treat Bing's report as ground truth for one engine and a free education in how retrieval works, and pair it with a monitor for the rest.
2. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Category: share-of-voice platform, with a methodology twist worth understanding.
Best for: teams already on Ahrefs who want AI visibility measured against real search demand.
Ahrefs Brand Radar tracks brand mentions and citations across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Grok, and it distinguishes a mention (the answer names your brand) from a citation (the answer links your site as a source), a separation sloppier tools blur. The methodological difference: instead of inventing synthetic prompt panels, Ahrefs derives prompts from real queries people ask, so the visibility data reflects demand that verifiably exists. Competitor benchmarking and the surrounding Ahrefs dataset round it out; chatbot indexes refresh monthly, with AI Overviews and search-demand data updating every few days. There is also a free AI visibility checker that reports mentions and citations for any brand with no signup, one of the better zero-cost starting points in the category.
Fit boundary: the AI indexes are paid add-ons on top of an Ahrefs subscription, so the economics make most sense if Ahrefs is already your SEO platform. Teams that want prompt panels tailored to their exact buying questions, or refreshed daily, will prefer a configurable monitor.
3. Profound
Category: share-of-voice platform, the enterprise reference point.
Best for: enterprise and well-funded scale-up marketing teams that want the deepest measurement layer in the category.
Profound was built for answer engines from day one in 2024, helped popularize the term AEO, and in February 2026 became the category's first unicorn with a Series C at a $1 billion valuation (Fortune covered the round). The product monitors brand presence across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and AI Overviews, with the full engine list (including Grok, Meta AI, and DeepSeek) gated to higher tiers. It adds prompt-level demand data (Prompt Volumes) and tracks AI crawler activity on your site (Agent Analytics). Its flagship case is specific rather than vague: Ramp grew AI visibility for its accounts payable category from 3.2% to 22.2% in one month using the platform's insights.
Fit boundary: it is built and priced for the Fortune 500 end of the market, and it is measurement, so you still need people who act on the findings. An early-stage team without dedicated content or SEO headcount will find it deeper than they can operationalize.
4. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Category: share-of-voice platform inside a classic SEO suite.
Best for: teams standardized on Semrush that want AI metrics next to their existing SEO reporting.
Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit measures brand presence across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini, reporting share of voice, mentions, visibility, and sentiment. The enterprise tier, Semrush Enterprise AIO, adds a prompt database the company states at over 261 million prompts, persona-level tracking, and source-level intelligence showing which pages shape how models describe your brand. Semrush is now an Adobe company (the acquisition closed in April 2026), and the enterprise product is marketed under Adobe's roof as well. The pragmatic case is consolidation: one login, one vendor, AI visibility beside rank tracking.
Fit boundary: paid, and the deepest capabilities sit in the enterprise tier. AI measurement is an extension of a general-purpose suite here rather than the company's single focus, so teams that want a purpose-built AI-only platform, or prompts grounded in their own buying questions, may prefer a specialist.
5. Peec AI
Category: prompt-testing monitor with strong share-of-voice reporting.
Best for: agencies and multi-brand teams monitoring AI visibility across markets and languages.
Peec AI, launched in Berlin in February 2025, tracks how often a brand appears across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, and Copilot (with Claude and DeepSeek available as add-on models), benchmarks share of voice against named competitors, and surfaces the exact domains and URLs engines cite for category questions. Its Actions feature clusters that citation data into a prioritized to-do list split into owned media you can create and earned media you need to win, the most execution-ready output of any monitor we have used. Agency tooling is a genuine strength: unlimited seats, multi-client workspaces, and tracking across unlimited countries in 115+ languages. The company reported $10 million ARR sixteen months after launch.
Fit boundary: paid, self-serve software for teams that already know how to convert visibility data into content and authority work. A single-brand company with one market will pay for multi-market machinery it does not need.
6. Otterly.AI
Category: prompt-testing monitor, the budget-friendly entry.
Best for: SMBs, solo marketers, and small agencies that want automated monitoring without an enterprise contract.
Otterly.AI runs your prompts daily across six platforms (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot) and reports brand mentions, a Share of AI Voice percentage, and weekly citation and link tracking with position changes over time. A prompt research tool suggests what to track from a URL or keyword, the GEO Audit feature turns findings into recommendations across digital PR, on-page work, and UGC, and a Looker Studio connector handles reporting. Setup is genuinely fast; this is the tool we see small teams actually keep using after the trial.
Fit boundary: paid, positioned deliberately down-market, and the audit output is recommendations rather than execution. Enterprise teams needing SSO, compliance certifications, or prompt volumes in the tens of thousands will outgrow it and should look at Scrunch AI or Profound.
7. ZipTie.dev
Category: prompt-testing monitor with a real-browser methodology.
Best for: technically minded teams that want monitoring data captured the way users actually see answers.
ZipTie.dev, built by the team behind the technical SEO agency Onely, tracks Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and Perplexity using real-browser sessions that mimic user behavior instead of querying APIs, on the argument that API responses can differ from what a person actually sees. It layers on an AI Success Score, citation tracking, sentiment, competitive benchmarking, query discovery, Google Search Console integration, and content briefs that convert visibility gaps into page-level instructions.
Fit boundary: paid with a free trial, and coverage is three engines, narrower than Peec AI or Otterly.AI. Teams whose buyers live in Copilot or Gemini will need supplementary coverage; teams focused on Google surfaces plus ChatGPT get the methodological rigor where it counts.
8. Scrunch AI
Category: enterprise monitor plus a delivery layer no one else has.
Best for: enterprises that need compliance-grade monitoring and want their site served in machine-readable form to AI crawlers.
Scrunch AI monitors brand presence across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Meta AI, and Copilot depending on tier, tracking which prompts mention you, which competitors win answers you lose, and which sources models cite. The differentiator is the Agent Experience Platform: it detects AI agents at the edge and serves them machine-readable versions of your content without touching the human experience, moving the product from measuring visibility toward directly influencing it. Enterprise scaffolding is real: SOC 2 Type II compliance, SAML and OAuth SSO, multi-brand deployments.
Fit boundary: paid and enterprise-oriented; small teams will find both the platform and the procurement process heavier than they need. The edge-serving approach also means a dependency on Scrunch AI infrastructure in your delivery path, which some engineering teams will want to evaluate carefully.
9. Goodie
Category: monitor plus AEO content tooling in one platform.
Best for: in-house teams that want measurement and AI-search content drafting inside a single product.
Goodie was founded by Mostafa ElBermawy, also the founder of the marketing agency NoGood, and positions itself as an all-in-one answer engine optimization platform built for generative engines from day one. It monitors brand presence, citations, and sentiment across a claimed 11+ platforms, including ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI, Copilot, and Google AI surfaces, the broadest engine list here. On top of monitoring it adds an optimization hub, an AEO Content Writer that drafts content shaped for AI pickup, topic exploration, and funnel attribution connecting AI visibility to conversions.
Fit boundary: paid, skewing mid-market and up. The bundle is the bet: teams that want pure measurement with no content generation attached may prefer a dedicated monitor, and AI-drafted content still needs your editorial standards applied before it ships.
10. Knowatoa
Category: crawler-access checker and monitor, solving a problem the others skip.
Best for: site owners who want to confirm AI engines can reach and read their site before spending on anything else.
Knowatoa answers the prerequisite question: can AI crawlers access your site at all? Its AI Search Console checks robots.txt permissions and crawl access for GPTBot, Claude-Web, PerplexityBot, GoogleOther, and the rest of the 15+ AI bots it covers, with recommendations per crawler and alerts when access breaks. It also reports how AI models describe your business, and its intent research classifies AI search demand. The free plan is unusually generous: unlimited sites, unlimited seats, ten tracked questions, and ChatGPT coverage with no credit card.
Fit boundary: the free tier's monitoring depth (ten questions, one engine) is a starting point rather than a program, with paid plans extending coverage. Treat it as the technical-access layer of your stack; a blocked GPTBot makes every other tool's dashboard moot, and this is the fastest way to find out.
11. HubSpot AEO Grader
Category: free one-time checker, a snapshot rather than a monitor.
Best for: anyone who wants a zero-cost read on their brand's AI presence before building a measurement stack.
HubSpot's AEO Grader (launched as AI Search Grader) takes a brand name, no account required, and reports what ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini say about it based on their training data. It scores five dimensions (sentiment, presence quality, brand recognition, share of voice, market competition) into a composite out of 100 with a written interpretation, and you can run it unlimited times at no cost. As a diagnostic for the training-data side of AI visibility, what models remember about you as opposed to what they retrieve live, it is a genuinely useful free instrument.
Fit boundary: it is a snapshot, without scheduled tracking, trend lines, competitor panels, or citation-level data, and it reads model memory rather than live retrieval. HubSpot has since added a paid, continuous AEO product above it. Use the free grader to get oriented and to make the internal case for measurement, then graduate to Bing Webmaster Tools plus a monitor for ongoing work.
How do you choose an AI visibility tool?
Map your situation to a stack:
- You have no budget and no baseline. Set up Bing Webmaster Tools today, run the HubSpot AEO Grader and the Ahrefs free checker for snapshots, let Knowatoa verify crawler access, and prompt-test ten buying questions by hand monthly. Total cost: zero.
- You are a single-brand B2B SaaS team ready to pay for one monitor. Otterly.AI for speed and price, or ZipTie.dev if real-browser capture and content briefs matter more than engine breadth. Keep Bing Webmaster Tools as ground truth.
- You are an agency or a multi-brand, multi-market team. Peec AI, built for exactly that shape, with per-client workspaces and country-level tracking.
- You are already paying for an SEO suite. Ahrefs Brand Radar or the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, whichever suite you live in. Consolidation beats a marginally better standalone tool you will not log into.
- You are an enterprise. Profound for measurement depth, Scrunch AI if compliance requirements and machine-readable delivery to AI crawlers are on the checklist, Goodie if you want content tooling bundled in.
Whichever you pick, hold every vendor to the same caveat: their numbers come from their prompt sample. Trends within one tool are meaningful; scores compared across two tools are noise.
Common questions about AI visibility tools
What is an AI visibility checker?
An AI visibility checker reports whether and how AI engines such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot mention or cite a brand. Free checkers (Ahrefs' AI visibility checker, HubSpot's AEO Grader) give a one-time snapshot; paid monitors run scheduled prompt panels and track trends; Bing Webmaster Tools reports first-party citation counts for Microsoft surfaces.
Is there a free AI visibility tool?
Yes, four practical options. Bing Webmaster Tools is fully free and is the only first-party citation data any engine publishes. Knowatoa has a free tier covering crawler access checks plus ten tracked questions on ChatGPT. HubSpot's AEO Grader and Ahrefs' AI visibility checker are free snapshot tools. A spreadsheet of monthly prompt tests costs nothing and remains the most underrated LLM SEO tool available.
Do I need an AI visibility tool or an AEO agency?
They solve different halves of the problem. A tool tells you where you stand; it does not restructure pages into liftable answers, build the schema and entity layer, or earn the third-party mentions that move the numbers. Agencies do the execution, and a newer class of agencies built around proprietary AI tooling (Daydream is a prominent example) bundles that tooling into a done-for-you service rather than selling software. Many teams run both a tool and a partner; our guides to AEO agencies for B2B and Webflow AEO agencies cover the execution side.
Why do different AI visibility tools show different numbers?
Because every tool samples its own prompt set, at its own frequency, sometimes via APIs and sometimes via real browsers, and AI answers themselves vary between runs. There is no shared index to agree on, the way rank trackers agree on a SERP. The practical rule: pick one tool as your system of record, read trends over months, and treat Bing Webmaster Tools as the one absolute number, since it comes from the engine itself. Our GEO agencies guide covers how execution teams report against this noise.
Methodology and disclosure
Karpi Studio is an agency, not a software vendor, and no tool on this list paid for placement or was consulted. Every capability claim was verified against the vendor's own live site or a primary press source in July 2026; where a number or feature could not be confirmed, it was cut or reworded. We use several of these tools daily in client work, which is the bias to know about. Corrections are welcome at pavel@karpi.studio.
